Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are recruiting for Trainee Wholetime Firefighters to join our Recruit Courses in 2020 and 2021.

The role of a Merseyside Firefighter is to save and preserve endangered life by supporting and maintaining an emergency response service to the community.  Instances where Firefighters are called upon to make life-saving decisions include the distinguishing of all fire related incidents, responding to requests for emergency medical care and rescuing people from what can be distressing situations.  As well as providing this crucial service, Merseyside Firefighters assist in the delivery of prevention activities to the most vulnerable people in our region to keep them safe.

The role:

Hours: 42 hours per week (48 hours over 8 days) with 42 hours of retained cover per week also.

Trainee Salary: £23, 366 per annum

Upon successful completion of the Recruit Training course and subsequent development within the role, salary will increase to £31, 144 per annum with an additional 10% for providing retained cover.

Important information for completing your application form

If you have not attained the required qualifications as indicated in the Person Specification, you will be asked to complete an on-line numeracy and literacy assessment before being invited to attend the Physical Assessments.

If you have the required qualifications, you must attach copies of your certificates when submitting your application.  Failure to do so will result in you being asked to complete the on-line numeracy and literacy assessments.

Applicants should note that information provided in the Supporting Evidence section of the application form should be no longer than 20,000 characters in length.

You do not need to live in Merseyside currently to apply for the role.  However, if successful, you will be required to reside in Merseyside from when you start your Firefighter training course.
