Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) would welcome external applications from individuals wishing to join the Protection Department in the roles of Firefighter or Crew Manager.

OUR STORY

There is nothing more tragic to us than loss of life so we will do everything we can to prevent this happening.  Saving lives and keeping our Firefighters safe matters to us.  We are a team of diverse people undertaking different roles but working together to achieve outstanding impact.

We are part of our community – its where we are from, its where we have brought up our families.  We reflect our area – looking after each other and showing kindness.

Our teams continue to shape our story, putting our community at the heart of everything we do.  We have a long and proud history of being bold – a mindset of let’s try it – let’s do it.  For Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, good enough is never good enough.

We are our community and we know the part we can play – our place, our culture and our people are what make us great.

THE ROLES

As set out in the Services bold new Integrated Risk Management Plan, we a investing heavily in our Protection team and these roles play a vital part in ensuring that we achieve these commitments.

As a Firefighter or Crew Manager within Protection you will:

Visit very high and high-risk premises (the team will visit 7,500 over the life of the IRMP).

Contribute to information recorded within a new Management Information System.

Complete peak hours inspections

Gain development at Level 3 through to Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety.

Work flexibly to meet the demands of the role.

As a Crew Manager you will:

Support the Management team with enforcement and prosecution of non-compliance.

Develop wider understanding of specialist sites (Petroleum / Explosive Storage).

Develop a reference in support of wider department roles (e.g. Training).

Progress through a Development Programme, which includes broader role development such as operational command.

THE DEPARTMENT

Like many other fire and rescue services we want to increase the resources we have available to carry out our legal duties in relation to Fire Safety and our Risk Based Inspection Programme.

The tragic Grenfell Tower fire in 2017 has meant, quite rightly, that there is an increased focus on high-rise residential buildings and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service also has responsibilities for safety in relation to petroleum, explosives and underground railways.
