Fire Control Operators
Operational Preparedness Directorate
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service

Salary: Whilst in training, £16,980 per annum, rising to £20,047 per annum whilst in development and then increasing to £25,652 when competent. 
The salary is inclusive of providing on call cover. You will not be required to provide on call cover until training has been completed and you are developing in the role.

Location: Joint Control Centre, Bridle Road, Bootle
 
Contracts: Permanent and fixed term contracts available

Hours of work
We are offering contracts that provide the flexibility to meet operational demands. You will work 3 x 12-hour shifts in every 8-day period. You will work a combination of day and night shifts. The day shift is 0700-1900 and the night shift is 1900-0700.  

You will also be available on call for 48-hours in each 8-day period. This availability will be for day and night shifts. If you are required to work during your on call period you must report for duty within 45 minutes of being notified. If required to work during an on call period you will be paid at your normal hourly rate of pay.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Fire Control team at Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, based at our Joint Control Centre, Bridle Road, Bootle.


The role 
As a Fire Control Operator you are the first point of contact when receiving 999 calls from members of the public and other agencies relating to requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance.  
Your role is to gather information, to decide the best course of action, mobilising operational crews and informing other agencies of needs for support services. Taking into account of all factors, which influence an efficient and effective response. Whilst providing fire safety advice to callers, including determining risks to their safety and advising on immediate action until Firefighters arrive. 

The person 
You will need to be a highly effective communicator, whilst remaining calm and focused under emotionally challenging situations. You will have the ability to make decisions based on the assessment of risk, and be an effective team player in a dynamic environment.
