Status: Part-time, permanent, 17.5 hours per week

Location: Service HQ, Bridle Road, Bootle, Merseyside

Use your skills to help create a safer Merseyside in a fast paced and exciting environment where no day is ever the same. Working in a small, tightly knit and supportive Communications Team, you will be working closely with a diverse range of operational and support staff at all levels to achieve outstanding impact in our community.

You should be highly skilled in dealing with press and media queries, developing press releases and social media content, with video, photography and design skills all coming into play in this professional role. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills both within the Service, with partner organisations and out in the community with the public. This role is demanding but rewarding and requires a highly motivated, resilient multi-tasker with the ability to be agile across both corporate communications, campaigns and internal communications.

You can be editing video, creating an infographic, updating the website, writing a press release and attending an incident, sometimes all in the same day, and then do something completely different the next. You will be able to go above and beyond to meet deadlines and support Service goals to keep the public and firefighters safe. The post holder will be required to provide 24 hour media cover on a rota system in the event of public safety messages or media liaison being required, for which an additional payment is offered.

We offer a competitive package with some great benefits:

Hours for this part-time role are 17.5 per week (with flexibility on when they are worked) based in a spacious office environment but with frequent travel to Service locations across Merseyside working to a flexi-time system.

22 days holiday, rising to 27 after 5 years’ service (pro – rata for part-time employees) plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closedown.

The successful candidate will also have free access to well-equipped Service gyms, free secure on-site parking, and a staff canteen/restaurant.

There is also a contributory pension (both the employee and MFRS), excellent Occupational Health services and Employee Assistance Programme.
